Many items crafted in the London workshop of E. Wolfe & Co. are exemplary in their great workmanship and attention to detail. This particular bird on a branch is lifelike and dimensional. Only an extremely deft hand could create an article with such wonderful gold workmanship and realistic form. Many of the jewels produced in this English workshop are done on a "special order" basis. It is fashioned in 18K yellow gold with a cabochon burnished ruby eye siting atop a head and breast of white and fancy yellow diamonds. Total approximate diamond weight is 1.50ct and all diamonds are of overall VS2 clarity, with white diamonds being G/H in color. In this case the entire rear of the bird is articulated, which is a very unusual touch. It is hand engraved E.W. on the rear and all appropriate British hallmarks are present, as well. The brooch measures 1 1/16 inches by 1 inch. Gross weight 14 grams.
